A real-estate agent and designer, Joel Contreras started remodeling homes because he was disappointed with investor flips he saw on the market. For several years, he has been renovating homes in historical neighborhoods near downtown Phoenix, bringing his own mix of modern-industrial style.
His latest project has gotten more attention than most. The bungalow he transformed in the Coronado Historic District was featured recently as one of Dwell.com's "Houses We Love" and on other websites for its blend of historical and modern features.
Concrete artist Brandon Boetto of SlabHaus created an eye-catching double vanity in the master bath. With its high, sloped wood ceilings, white subway-tile walls and teak and concrete flooring, the master bath has a modern spa feel. Contreras used black Brizo faucets and fixtures throughout the house.
